Over time, your body naturally absorbs the treated vein and it gradually fades from view. Treatment usually requires a few sessions.

What To Do
- Bring compression stockings to your appointment. We may recommend wearing them afterwards to help healing and improve results
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing on the day
- Go for light walks afterwards to promote blood flow and prevent clot formation
- Protect the treated area from direct sun to prevent pigmentation changes
- Keep your follow-up appointments and report any concerns
What To Avoid
- No aspirin, ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory medication for at least 48 hours before the procedure
- No lotion or oil on the treatment area for 12 hours before your appointment
- Avoid tetracycline or minocycline for 7 to 10 days either side. These antibiotics can stain the skin after sclerotherapy
- Avoid strenuous exercise for a few days afterwards. Give yourself time to heal

Will the treated veins come back?
The treated vein generally does not return, because the procedure causes it to collapse and be reabsorbed by the body. New varicose or spider veins can still develop over time, though, due to underlying vein conditions or lifestyle factors. Follow-up treatments and proper vein care help maintain the result.
How many sessions will I need?
It varies with the severity and number of veins being treated. Everyone is different, but typically 1 to 3 sessions are needed for optimal results.
When will I see results?
You may clear an estimated 50% to 80% of the injected veins after the first session. Initial results show within a few weeks, and optimal results typically appear after about 3 to 4 months as the treated veins fade and your body absorbs them.
Is it painful?
Generally not. There is minimal discomfort during the procedure, though it is common to feel a slight sting or cramp as the solution is injected. Any discomfort is brief.
What are the side effects?
Common side effects include mild bruising, redness and swelling of the treated area, which typically resolve within a few days. You may see temporary skin discolouration or small red spots known as telangiectatic matting, and the skin around the veins can feel lumpy or tougher for a longer period. In rare cases more serious side effects such as blood clots or allergic reactions can occur, and our staff will discuss all of this with you at your consultation.
