What Progress Looks Like

Results You Feel, Not See

There’s no before-and-after photo for this one. Joint pain relief doesn’t show up in a picture. It shows up in the stairs you stop dreading and the morning stiffness that fades. Here’s the honest timeline.

2 to 3 Weeks

You may start to notice the first improvement in pain and movement as your platelets get to work.

3 to 6 Months

Full results typically become noticeable, usually across an initial series of 1 to 3 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Every 4 to 6 Months

Follow-up treatments are usually scheduled at this interval, or as needed to maintain your relief.

What Our Patients Say

What Is PRP for Joint Pain?

A Non-Surgical Alternative, Made From You

Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy is a non-surgical treatment designed to alleviate joint pain and promote healing. It uses a concentration of your body’s own platelets to stimulate the treated area (the same growth factors your blood already sends to an injury, just concentrated and placed exactly where you need them.

Because the injection is made from your own blood, there’s no foreign substance involved, which significantly reduces the risk of an allergic reaction. It’s most useful for early arthritis or mild tendon injuries, and less so for advanced or severe conditions) a consultation is how we find out which one you’re dealing with.

Seamless Health also trains other practitioners in PRP technique, and was first in the region to offer Cellenis® NaturaGel.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. PRP therapy uses your own blood, which significantly reduces the risk of an allergic reaction. Minor side effects include temporary swelling, redness and soreness at the injection site, which typically resolve within a few days.

Ideal candidates have chronic joint pain, osteoarthritis, tendonitis or ligament injuries, and are in generally good health. PRP may be beneficial for early arthritis or mild tendon injuries, but less so for advanced or severe conditions. It isn’t suitable if you have a blood disorder, an infection at the injection site, are on active anti-coagulation therapy, are pregnant, or have a tumour or metastatic disease.

Most clients start with an initial series of 1 to 3 PRP treatments, spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart. Patients being treated for osteoarthritis of the knee typically receive two to three injections, spaced two to four weeks apart. Follow-up treatments are usually scheduled every 4 to 6 months, or as needed.

Discontinue all anti-inflammatory medications for two weeks before your injections (including Advil, ASA, Aleve, Naprosyn, Voltaren, Arthrotec and Celebrex), and avoid them for a week afterwards. These medications blunt the inflammatory healing response that PRP is designed to trigger. Also tell your provider about any anticoagulation therapy, pregnancy, infection, tumours or metastatic disease.

Avoid strenuous activities for several days and resume sporting activities only once you’re pain-free. Recovery is typically 1 to 2 days. PRP can also be combined with other treatments such as physical therapy or medications for enhanced results.
